Make a list of special items that you want to move with extra caution and get them insured.
Reduce the amount that you have to move by having a yard sale before the big move.
Pack pictures in boxes between blankets or towels for extra protection.
Pack heavy items in small boxes.
Designate one drawer of a dresser for the essential items that you may need on your first night in your new home. Load this drawer last and unpack it first.
Get a jump start on packing and pack items that your family does not use ahead of time.

Submit change of address forms to the post office.
Make sure that you set aside all important personal information. Eg. Insurance or Medical documents.
Make sure that you arrange to connect and disconnect the utilities, telephone, cable & internet services.
Check all closets and any storage areas for any items that you may have left behind.
Don’t forget to notify banks of move.
Make sure to give the moving company your cell phone number so that they can get a hold of you.
